By combining their many years practicing conventional medicine with their deep knowledge of alternative medicine, Dr. Vivian Asamoah and Dr. Radha Tamerisa are able to offer ZAZEN’s unified Functional Medicine experience.
A consultation with either ZAZEN doctor allows them to work with you to tackle the root causes of the disease and treat your whole system, not just suppress the symptoms. This one-on-one time is important for your road to an overall healthy lifestyle – the consultation creates a unique and individualized partnership between you and ZAZEN.
Functional Medicine combines the practices of mainstream, Western medical practices (Conventional Medicine) with non-traditional, integrative therapies (Alternative Medicine). This complementary approach to healthcare allows practitioners to focus on whole-body healing and prevention: from nutrition and exercise to diagnostic techniques and detoxification programs.
“We are creating a partnership to give our patients ownership over their health. That’s when you see positive changes, healthy outcomes, and great results.”

Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
Acupuncture is the insertion of very thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. A key component of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is most commonly used to treat pain. Increasingly, it is also being used for overall wellness, including stress management. Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will rebalance.
What can I expect during the treatment?
According to traditional Chinese medical theory, acupuncture points are located on the body's meridians, through which vital energy runs. This energy is known as "qi" or "chi." A ZAZEN acupuncturist will examine and assess your condition before inserting thin, sterile needles into your acu-points. As each needle is inserted, you may feel a very brief stinging or tingling sensation.
What are the results?
Although needles are used in acupuncture, treatments are relatively pain-free. One of the most popular uses of acupuncture is to reduce chronic pain throughout the body in a natural way, without the need for medications that can cause unwanted side effects.
Is it safe?
Acupuncture is safe and should only be administered by a licensed practitioner. After the needle is inserted, there is occasionally a dull ache at the base of the needle that quickly subsides.
